The Atari home computer was one of the best early PC's on the home
market. Pictured on the right is the
Atari 800 (48k Ram) with a Atari 810 disk drive (90k) storage. This system would
have cost you around $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 in 1979. This computer was the direct
challenger to the Apple II. The Atari had some of the best graphics and sounds of
it's time.

I started with my first Atari computer in 1982, an Atari 400
with cassette loader. Over the years I owned an Atari 800, 1200XL,
800XL, 65XE, 130XE. I also had a couple Atari 16bit ST's. A Atari
520ST and a Atari 1040ST. In 1986 I ran a small Atari BBS called
"Atari Small Fry" in the Houston area.
There are several Atari emulators on the market today to
allow you the feel of the Atari on a PC. The best way to enjoy an
Atari computer is to get one.
EBay and Craig's list still carry this stuff from time
to time. With modern items like the MY IDE interface you can use IDE Hard
disk drives on your original 8 bit Atari's like the 800XL or 130XE.
Sadly in 2005 I took a very large load of Atari hardware,
software, and books / magazines over to a friend and donated them. I
did not have the time or energy anymore.
In 2002 to 2004 i did write a few articles for the MYAtari.
net on-line Atari magazine. You can see those here Under the "Atari in the
USA" banner.
